The University of Newcastle – The House (Isabellas)

We recently undertook a significant commercial refurbishment project at the University of Newcastle, transforming an existing restaurant space into the new UoN Isabellas, a modern student study lounge complete with communal facilities. We constructed this space to meet the evolving needs of students, providing them with a versatile space that encourages both individual study and collaborative work.

The project involved a complete overhaul of the interior, stripping out the old restaurant fixtures and fittings and reconfiguring the layout to maximise the use of space. The new study lounge needed to be both functional and inviting. Specific materials were selected for their durability and aesthetic, with a focus on creating a welcoming environment that foster a sense of community. This included comfortable seating areas, group workstations, and nooks for focused study.

Lighting played a crucial role in setting the right atmosphere, with a combination of natural and artificial light sources used to create a bright and energising space.
